YS Falls - including lunch - Black River

The YS Falls are situated in private property.  One has to drive from the entrance of the property to the waterfall in a tractor and trailer.  The YS Falls are in the shape of a “Y” and one can swing into the water on a rope swing.

Black River was the first town in Jamaica which had electricity.  On the river of the same name, you can travel directly by boat to the crocodiles.   With a bit of luck you could be in time to watch the feeding session and, you can even call them by name!

Black River

Mayfield Falls – Roaring River with the Blue Hole - Direct view to a Marijuana plantation

The river is accessible by means of a suspension bridge, which leads directly to the Mayfield Falls.  Escorted by a native inhabitant, you can become acquainted and learn a lot about Jamaica’s rich vegetation.

The Roaring River is located in the interior.  One can witness how a huge river emerges from a small pond.   In the Blue Hole one can find a source of water which has healing and rejuvenating qualities.

Appleton rum factory - Bamboo Avenue - Lover's Leap

Witness how genuine Appleton Jamaican rum is manufactured.  At the end of the distillation round one can even sample the rum.

Bamboo Avenue is a narrow stretch, with thick bamboo trees along both sides of the road.  Many pubs will invite you in to enjoy a cool drink.

Lover’s Leap is a beautiful cliff, 518 m above sea level with a break-taking view of the surroundings.  According to the legend, it is said that two slave lovers ended their lives by leaping from the cliff because they were forbidden to be lovers by their employer.

Dunn's River Fall or dolphin Coast – including lunch (real Yerk Pork - Fern Gully Columbus Point

The most famous, is perhaps the Dunn's River Fall, a waterfall which begins at a height of 183 m in the hills over the city and flows over travertine rock into the sea.  It is best to climb the falls in a human chain with an experienced guide.

On the dolphin Coast you can swim with the dolphins.

It is a beautiful drive along Fern Gully road, which connects Kingston to the other side of the island. Enormous ferns, (300 different varieties) some with leaves the size of a large car, rise up out of the dense, damp forest.

Columbus discovered Jamaica in 1494.
In 1503 his ship was wrecked near the coast of Jamaica.  He and his crew spent 1 year in Jamaica, till they were finally picked up by another ship.

Port Antonio – Blue Lagoon – Trick-place of the film "Cocktail" with Tom Cruise – City tour though Port Antonio

After a drive through the Blue Mountains directly after Port Antonio, you can swim in the blue lagoon, just like in the film of the same name.

A cool cocktail probably tastes the best in the famous cocktail bar, where Tom Cruise mixed cocktails in the film.

This trip is a must for all Bob Marley fans. The house and studio of Bob Marley was converted into a museum after his death.  During the life time of Bob Marley it was called “Tuff Gong” and now it is called the Bob Marley Museum.

Memories, press articles, concert posters as well as innumerable golden records are to be seen and there is of course, always good music to be heard.

Ninemile is the birth place as well as the place where Bob Marley is buried.

Kingston Devon House - Port Royal – including a drink in a bar in Kingston with a beautiful view over Kingston

This house has been restored from the 19 hundreds.  It was built by the first black millionaire.  Today it is partly used as a museum which exhibits antiques; other sections are occupied by a restaurant, and a shop “Things Jamaica” which sells high-quality goods and products.

Port Royal was a notorious place, used by hundreds of Pirates. The gold and rum was cheap but so was human life!  In 1692 a part of the city sank into the sea.  There are rumours, that the bells of the church which also sank can still be heard today.   It is said that there is a curse on this spot and the remains of the building that once existed can still be seen slowly disappearing into the sand.  Innumerable deep sea divers from all over the world come here in the hope of finding sunken treasures.

Milk River Bath – Alligator Hole

The Milk River Bath is a therapeutic bath with a high radioactive content; it is ten times more concentrated as compared to other similar baths in England.  Innumerable diseases, e.g. rheumatism, joint pains, skin diseases, heart as well as high and low blood pressure problems are said to be healed by this water.

Treasure Beach is one of the best beaches in the country.  Unfortunately, the roads  on the south coast are not in very good condition but a trip is worth the effort as an alternative to the typical touristic experience.

Rose Hall – Falmoth River-Rafting

Rose Hall

The Rose Hall Great House is one of Jamaica’s premier tourist attractions. It was formerly the home of Annie Palmer, the white witch of Rose Hall. Dead for over 100 years, her legend still evokes memories of her monstrous reign as the mistress of the Great House. All three of her husbands met their death at her hands, while countless slaves suffered as a result of her ruthlessness.   It is said that her ghost still haunts the house.

It is said,  that Flynn observed how bananas were transported on bamboo rafts from the mountains high above, to the markets below and therefore thought that it would be fun floating down the river on a raft.

Today there are hundreds of rafters, who have built their own rafts and who offer visitors an exciting two hour trip on the river through the rain forest.

Oracabessa - Dunn's River Fall including lunch (real Yerk Pork)

In Oracabessa, lies the former home of the writer Noel Coward.  His modest stone hut “Firefly” is still in the same condition as it was in 1973, the year in which he died.

The property, which originally belonged to the once pirate and politician Sir Henry Morgan, lies on a hill high above sea level.  It is surely one of the most spectacular sights of interest in Jamaica and definitely worth seeing.  The route is a winding road which passes through tiny villages.  Even if you do not know the writer, it is worth the trip because; the view is something you will never forget in your life.

Mandeville – High Mountain Coffee Factory

Mandeville is situated at a height of approximately 609 meters.  It is known for its beautiful houses and has become an attraction to pensioners.  It is a peaceful city, and the temperatures are lower than in the coastal towns.  It is not so touristic.

The High Mountain Coffee Factory is not far from the city.  Here one can buy Blue Mountain coffee or the milder, cheaper High Mountain coffee beans.
